History/Timeline
Every member has a story … and so does Sears Federal Credit Union. SFCU was originally founded in January 1936. Back then, we were better known as Sears Memphis Employees Federal Credit Union and we were formed by seven employees from the Sears Roebuck and Company Catalog plant, to serve the employees of Sears Roebuck and Company in Memphis, Tennessee. Can you believe we started out with just seven members? As they say, we’ve come a long way, baby!
And while the names and faces have changed over the years, what hasn’t is our commitment to offering products and services that make sense for our members.
And of course, our founding principle, the same one that credit unions around the world live by, and that’s people helping people. We’re here to help you achieve your financial dreams. As a not-for-profit institution for more than 70 years, our only purpose is the help you find better ways to save and borrow money. And we’re proud to “toot” our own horn, just a bit. … Because we were awarded Bauer Financial reports’ excellent rating (4 stars) designating us as one of the most financially sound and strong credit unions in the country. And in the midst of these troubled economic times, isn’t it comforting to know that there’s a financial institution that is safe and sound AND cares about what really matters to you?
